Stone Giants in Alentejo: great plains and big megaliths! (2 day tour)
The Tour
Walk among ancient sanctuaries and amazing stone Giants lost in the plains of Alentejo.
In this unforgettable two day tour we will explore menhirs and cromlechs, sacred places for the prehistoric men and women that were built with great effort to celebrate solstices and gods, to bury the community’s most important members and to keep the memory of the groups’ habits and rituals.
In the Escoural Cave our visit will be accompanied by the painted animals that still run along the walls, testimonies of the old shamans and hunters that were hidden in the shadows for thousands of years.
The night is spent in the beautiful village of Monsaraz, and you will want to wake up again just to see the great never-ending views that surround this small walled historical town. All this complete with the best of Alentejo’s cuisine, which includes dishes like scrambled eggs with asparagus or the migas, a very traditional dish made from leftover bread, garlic, olive oil and fried pork.
In the peaceful warmth of Alentejo you will not be lacking in adventure or in quiet moments of relaxation, in a time travel to the farthest of places, the prehistoric times.
