Relive the frightening days of the great earthquake that destroyed Lisbon!
On November 1st, 1755, the earth shook violently in Lisbon and throughout Portugal. The city fell, was flooded by a tsunami and burnt for days, while its inhabitants watched powerless and a Marquis issued the orders that would put Lisbon in order again.
Join us on this scary walk and explore the before and after of this terrible catastrophe! Discover the great monuments that disappeared and the streets that were never seen again, hear the stories of those days and follow the survivors as they made their way to higher, safer ground.
From the Convents of Carmo and Trindade to the great All-Saints Hospital, with the Chiado and the lost Marialva Palace, the old city comes back to life and keeps us company in this time travel.
The Downtown Area is waiting for us in the end, a symbol of the Portuguese effort to rebuild its capital, the new city that has been welcoming visitors in all its beauty for the past 200 years.
