The Old City Walls
The Tour
Come with us in search of the walls that surrounded and protected Lisbon for centuries!
Giants of stone that face every invader with a scary look, Lisbon’s city walls protected their people for many centuries! Throughout time they were built and rebuilt, made bigger and better as the fate of empires and kingdoms changed.
Almost disappeared from the capital of today, the city’s walls are still hidden under the streets, inside modern buildings or beneath ancient churches. They are waiting for new battles and warriors, in a city that no longer ends outside its gates.
In a real time travel we go in search of what remains from the wall that surrounded the roman Olisipo, the Moorish Wall of Uxbuna and the medieval Fernandina Wall. Somewhere in the middle we also discover king Dinis’ wall, lost for centuries and recently brought back to the city’s life.
The walls of Lisbon are waiting for your visit. Don’t miss this walk in search of the past that will take you to the best archaeological sites and hidden corners of the city!
