The Women of Lisbon
The Tour
The famous song says that Lisbon is a “young girls”, and the fact is that women were always an important part of it!
Noble ladies or unknown girls, queens or commoners, all come together in this Walk to the feminine universe and its impact in Lisbon.
Get to know the queens that lived in the old Palace of Ribeira, like D. Leonor or D. Luísa de Gusmão, the women behind the kings, who adopted Portugal as their home and fought for its destiny alongside their people.
From the Downtown Area to the Chiado, we hear about two famous sisters, the Perliquitetes, or about the Countess of Elba, an actress that married a king and shocked an entire country. Walking down the hill to the Mouraria, we remember one of first known fado singers, Severa, and hear about her short and tragic life.
In the beauty of its streets, buildings and memories, the city tells the story of a brave group of women. Join us in The Women of Lisbon walk and discover their secrets!
